Analogous is a performance video featuring choreography by T’Ana Selah. The project required rapid creative problem-solving, as production began with less than two days’ notice and minimal visual reference for the final piece.

The choreography was filmed out of sequence and without the original music playing on set, which required careful planning to ensure movements would align properly in post-production. While more than 30 shots were captured, the final edit primarily uses several long takes to preserve the flow of the choreography and create a more immersive viewing experience.

The filming process also required precise coordination between the performers and crew. During shooting, T’Ana, two assistants managing lights, and I moved strategically around the dancer to maintain consistent lighting and framing while staying synchronized with the choreography.

Post-production involved significant editing work, particularly retiming the choreography to match the original music. The opening shot required extensive visual effects to remove a bright orange ladder that the camera was positioned on, which had to be digitally painted out to preserve the composition of the frame. Color grading also played a key role in the final look. Because the video was filmed on a cloudy day with minimal natural light, the large windows in the background were intentionally brightened to create contrast and keep the focus on the performer.

During the editing process, I also experimented with an alternate version of the film using a different track. Although this version was not selected for the final release, it remains a personal favorite for how it expands the emotional tone and pacing of the choreography.
